According to Claymore the downloading from q2scene should be back to normal now, meaning you no longer need to be logged on for downloading demos.

NiDML - 17 forced matches
2006-06-10 09:02 | daelmun
Yes, you're eyes are not deceiving you. the admins of Nations Insta Deathmatch League (NiDML) has forced 17 games for the 11th, 12th and 13th of June.
On a sidenote Sweden took down Belgium 2:1 in a close encounter and further increased their lead on Belgium in Group B pretty much securing their spot in the playoffs.

NDML for football?
2006-06-09 21:59 | daelmun
Seems like the ideas of q2 are spreading around the globe in more ways than I would imagine. It looks like a recently founded organisation named FIFA has blatantly stolen the brilliant idea of the NDML creators to host a tourney where the best football-players (instead of q2-players) from each country represent their homeland to face eachother on the footballfield. Cleverly enough, they decided to ditch the 4 player per team and the timelimit 20 rules, instead going with 11(!) players per team and 90(!!) minutes timelimit. To avoid the hassle of serverselection and map-picking, they decided to have a huge lan-like tourney in Germany, where all games are played on a similar looking field (map).
Anyway, who do you think will win the world-cup? Will Sweden use their q2 NDML-experience and walk away with the victory, or will some unkown teams from South America win it, like Brazil?
The world cup kicked off earlier today with Germany winning 4-2 against Costa Rica. 32 teams will battle for the #1 spot untill the 9th of July.

EuroQ2L - semifinals
2006-06-08 19:27 | daelmun
EuroQ2L is moving along nicely, with the first round of the playoffs finished. We did see some really nice games, and will probably see even more in the days to come.
Since my last update (here), two more games have been played in the "Golden Playoffs":
stop|: 3 (q2dm1/q2dm7/q2dm3) [KTA]: 1 (q2dm2) Foen's in depth report
With HBQ and (2.0) already through to the next round, we will see the following pairing in the semifinals:
"Golden playoffs" Semi finals (1-4):
Wizards vs stop|
HBQ vs (2.0)
These matchups just scream for some very intresting and tense games. Stay tuned.
To find out what teams are playing in the "Silver playoffs" and "Bronze playoffs" as well for the remaining games (deciding the 5-8 placements) in "Golden Playoffs", read the EuroQ2L newsitem.

NADML playoff
2006-06-08 19:09 | daelmun
NADML is strolling along slowly but steadily. After a groupstage where all teams faced eachother once, the playoffs in the North American Deathmatch League is about to kick off.
Games will be played 2/3, with timelimit set to 20.
Read all about it on the NADML-site!

Concerning d/l from q2scene
2006-06-07 17:38 | daelmun
Gotten a few pmsg's on IRC the last week and I see people explain in comments that they can not download demos from demosquad. The answer is simply (as also given in the forum):
You need to be logged on to be able to download files from q2scene
Whether it's intentional or not, is left to be seen. Claymore should know <3

32bit texture pak
2006-06-05 22:26 | daelmun
This thread contains several links to 32bit paks to quake2, that have been put together by Tosher (he isn't the author of all textures, he just collected them and added some of his own, so big thanks to all authors). Since the site is primarily on Russian, I'll just give the links here:
JPG: higher compression, but lower quality
PNG: lower compression, without losing quality
Colored pak z5_32bitclr_jpg.pak (Clients: nocheat, also works with r1q2(R1GL)/aprq2)
z5_32bitclr_png.pak (Clients: q2advance, aslo works with r1q2(R1GL)/aprq2)
Black/White pak z5_32bitbw_jpg.pak (Clients: nocheat, also works with r1q2(R1GL)/aprq2)
z5_32bitbw_png.pak (Clients: q2advance, aslo works with r1q2(R1GL)/aprq2)
Note: Some computers may have problems with the textures on q2rdm2 (at least when running R1Q2), losing a lot of frames (explained in the thread). If you want to remove the q2rdm2-textures delete all folders in the pak that isn't named eXuY (where X and Y are a number 0-9). Tosher may re-release the paks with and without q2rdm2.

2x2? final is coming up soon
2006-06-05 22:05 | daelmun
The Final: According the the 2x2? website, the only game left is the final:
.fi vs. WOC
The final will be played in best of 5 format, which means both teams have to pick 2 maps each. Even though the league has been plagued by some w/o in the playoffs, the final should definitely be an exciting match imo.
Semifinals: .fi > EF 2:0 (q2dm2: 36-31 / q2drm2: 61-25)screenshots
WOC > [love] 2:0 (walkover) read why

Scooby wins the final
2006-06-05 08:46 | daelmun
Then it was decided: Scooby goes through the 1v1 minicomp undefeated, taking down DaHanG in the grand final 2 to 0 in maps, after DaHanG came up from the loserbrackets by beating Naymlis.
Looks like the minicomp was ran pretty smoothly, and it's left to see if GGL will use Q2 for the Americup in the upcoming season. And a well deserved victory for Scooby who went through the tourney without any maplosses.
