The very old-school QuakeWorld map Bloodrun AKA ztndm3 was made by the best Quake mapper ever : ZTN !
the map was ported to Quake 3 then to Quake LIVE,and finally,it has been ported to the best game ever : Quake 2 !

themuffinman realised a Q2 version made from scratch,the map is almost similar to the QL one (no stairs to RL or to HB).

There is some remake of that map in Q2 but this seems to be the best one,it was made FOR Q2,means,it is very suitable to the Q2 physics and models,the map is fun for duels and some FFA,also it is kinda balanced for 2 vs 2 games.

A lot has happened in the past months in our small land of Quake 2 - newash coming up with the UNICTF and TESLA, Shao building up a brand new TDM map, norman and neon helping him out with a one-off tournament, Welkin coming back in the Quake 2 picture with the Dredge project, reviving gibblordag, taking over most of the admining duties for the upcoming season and finally writing up his Regeneration Manifesto. All the effort to put some life into the game, to revive the old fun we all used to share.

As it turned out, the Manifesto has really caught up- the European leagues have all agreed to be bound by it. And so, there have been news all over the place supporting the idea. However, the European admins were not the only ones thinking about reinventing the game's season- the Polish admin crew is proud to introduce the refreshed 13th installment of the Polish Quake 2 League PLQ2!

Although not following the Manifesto's vision word-by-word, the all-(admin)-star crew of Danka, Darus, Hamster, Pio, Urbasek and Stasiek sure do mean well for the game so it is reflected in their picture of the upcoming season of PLQ2:

:: NoFake enforced - the (in)famous Polish idea of keeping track of all the fakes; all the players willing to play the game have to have the NoFake account,
:: GTV - GTV readily available for the most important games, as it no longer collides with the NoFake component,
:: New mappool - the Poles have ffinally decided to incorporate q2next1 into the league; while at it, they picked up q2ht as well - expect some games on new grounds,
:: Smaller tournaments - to accompany the main event, the admin crew is going to host a number of smaller tournaments or games,
:: Prizes - that's right, the crew has organised a way to fund the league with some nice prizes, which are to be given out for the best clans, and possibly for the winners of the smaller event, or the players of the month,
:: and much, much more which is yet to be revealed in the upcoming days.

It it worth noting, as some of you might not know, since the last few seasons, PLQ2 is open for the foreigners - meaning anyone of you can join in and play in one of the most prestigious TDM Quake 2 league there is. However, what you must look out for is - you have to have NoFake account. Plus, there's a restriction on number of foreigners in a single clan (up to 2 foreigners in a clan; only 1 can play on a single map). If that doesn't scare you off, but you don't have a NoFake account, go to #NoFake (@ qnet) and/or ask Darus to fix you an account. Please do note that Darus is also willing to help you out in finding a clan to play in, either directly or by posting on a Polish Quake 2 forums. So if you're determined to play in the league, yet you can't find a proper clan - he's the man to go to.

It sure sounds nice, but when does it start? The signups have been opened for almost a week (12 clans signed up so far) and close on the 30th September. Then, the league will start off with an UNICTF opening game of clanleadears facing the admin crew, followed up by a bot-generated drawing of the maps for each round. Meaning, the league is most likely to start on October, the 1st. Don't miss it.

Besides mentioning that the 3rd part of the 2011 Regeneration Manifesto was just published, I need to approach you all with a very urgent and important matter...

HELP GETTING PLAYERS AND CLANS TO SIGN UP FOR THE LEAGUES!

Everybody needs to chip in for this upcoming season to be something out of the ordinary - and that's exactly what we must want! This might be the best shot we will get at reviving the scene, or at the very least improve it. So let's not fuck it up!

There's 2-3 divisions in both EDL and EuroQ2L this season, which means there's a great potential for all players to enjoy the competitions and have fun, and on top of that there's prize money in every division.

Call in your old clan buddies, harass random people on servers, ask your mom to play - whatever! Make a difference and HELP OUT!

EDL #10 & EQ2L #16 Launched2011-09-13 08:06 | Welkin
The 2011/2012 season is upon us!

Both EDL #10 and EuroQ2L #16 have been launched, and the signups phase for both competitions will last until Sunday, September 25th, 24.00 CET (midnight before Monday).

Changes have been made to the layout of both events - make sure to have a good look at that!

And please, on behalf of all the wonders of this game, let's make this a season like none we've seen in several years! Hunt down your old gaming buddies, those inactive and retired, and revive their interest and make them join!

Both leagues will feature several divisions, and even prize money in all divisions... So perhaps for the first time in a while, there'll be plenty of fun and reward for players of all levels of skill!

I have decided to address the community with my views and ideas on the current situation in the Quake2 scene, and what I think needs to be done about it.

I will publish this 2011 Regeneration Manifesto piece by piece, over the course of the next couple of weeks. Polish translations will follow, however, at an unknown pace.

This is a call to arms, and it concerns everybody.

Please, bear in mind that the different parts are only pieces of a greater whole, meaning that neither one of them individually constitutes the proposal for solution.

Hammer Time Tournament2011-09-06 11:12 | Welkin
This Sunday, September 11th, 19.30 CET, norman and neon are bringing us a one-day tournament.

The competition is to be played out on one map only, namely Hammer Time - a new and yet untried TDM map, constructed by Shao. Download here, and loc here.

TDM 4v4 with mixed teams. Players will be distributed among the teams in the same manner as in the typical gibb/pickup events (Gibblördag example).

It's open for everyone, and you sign up either by making a comment on the ScenaQ2 page here, or by messaging norman or neon on IRC. Deadline: Sunday, Sep 11, 19.00.

Players limit will be set to either 24 or 32, depending on the interest, but if the limit is all ready hit when you wish to sign up, you will be listed as a substitute.

You verify your registration by joining the IRC channel - #q2ht.tour at Qnet - on Sunday, between 19.00 and 19.30. Those who fail to show up, will be replaced by substitutes.

The games will take place on Polish servers, and the grand final will be covered by GTV and a shoutcast.

With the recent start of the fairly successful (more players are welcome to join!) TESLA ladder, the duel lovers, have a platform to play on, even during a slow summer season. But what about the players who despise duelling, who are more fond of TDM? The EUROQ2L season is (nearly) finished, there's no regular league on the horizon till the next season in autumn, there's no TDM ladder of any sorts... You could always connect to a somewhat full server hoping for a pick-up game. Yet, how many times have you been left off as the unfortunate 9th player on the server, huh? What are the TDM players to do, then?

Fear no more. Welkin and sofiene come to the rescue, with the idea of reviving an old Scandinavian project, the gibblördag!

The gibblördag was a series of events designed for players who had nothing to do on lazy saturdays (hence the name), yet were up for some TDM action. They used to gather on irc channel, appoint team captains among themselves and begin picking players, in a manner familiar to that of a football playground. Then, they would compete in the temporary created teams for the gibblördag champion title. Simple idea, what's not to like about it?

It doesn't go unnoticed that there is huge potential in this kind of event to put some life into the game. In fact, the project was actually revived this year, in January. It was, however, only a one-off thing. Welkin and sofiene are looking to revive the project with little to no changes to the formula for good. They want it to become a routine - every week, same night, same time. But whether they do revive the thing, or not, all depends on the response of the community.

Quake 2 - the game we all love was released over 12 years ago, can you imagine? One could say that after all those years, we (the players) have learned the game to the bits, that we know every single secret, every single line of its source code. How wrong would that be, huh?

Yes, even though the game was released over a decade ago, we still haven't got full understanding of our beloved platform. There are still many mysteries around the game that baffle us on daily basis. One of those unexplained mysteries are the jumps of all sorts and movement physics in general.

There is probably not a single player who hasn't tried to get his/her head around the jumps, the proper values of maxfps commands and relation of those two. The most of us have settled for a single, comfortable setting to play on, leaving the issue unresolved (as it seems that different CPU configurations lead to different settings, best fit for an individual player on an individual computer). There are, however, players who took more serious approach. The jumpmod players have researched the issue more extensively, as they have to know how to utilize the best setting to perform a specific jump, in order to complete the maps. Among them is a Pole - n00k!e, champion of the last JUMP tournament and arguably one of the best jumpmod players ever.

Turns out that the jump-fps issue has haunted n00k!e in his sleep for so long, that he decided to resolve the issue once and for all, taking a role of an an experimental physicist of the Quake 2 in the Strogg facility. After years of extensive research and countless experiments, he is finally proud to announce that his work has paid off. He's just turned all the data he's gathered into a fine piece of writing, Quake II: Physics, explaining how certain aspects of Quake 2 physics work. The Edge #2 is long time over, so are the NDML #9 and EDL #9. There are only 2(3? 3rd place match?) games left to be played in the EUROQ2L #15. It sure looks like, the competitive part of the scene is going to follow its typical schedule with the summer break. The process nearly as old as the game itself - as the spring season finishes, the playerbase shrinks immensely until the fall season launches its tournaments. Yes, that would be the case this year as well, if it weren't for newash and his never-ending ideas on how to revive the game we all love.

The new project of newash's - TESLA, The Endless Supreme Ladder is supposed to be the kind of tournament Quake 2 really needs - a never-ending tournament, which runs extremely smooth, as it's competition oriented. Just as TESLA's motto goes- no scheduling, no deadlines, no walkovers, no screens, no demos, no pressure. Just pure games, pure competition.

As the name implies, Newash figured the best way to run a tournament like this is in the form of a ladder. In ladder tournaments, you can usually play however many games you wish during the week. That is also true with TESLA. You feel like playing a game during the week? That's alright, you play a TESLA game. You feel like playing 50 games in a row? That's alright, you play 50 TESLA games. Or maybe you don't feel like playing, at all? That's alright, no admin will bother you.

Yet, TESLA is not your ordinary Quake 2 ladder. It is somewhat divided into two parts, as you earn points of two kinds - normal (ranking) points, which determine your position in the ladder and Grand Prix points. GP points are calculated from different formula and are meant to determine the winner of the 10 week period of the tournament, called Grand Prix.

What's even more interesting, is the mappool. There is no hard set mappool of any sort! The map for each week of the competition is determined by the scenaq2.pl's pool results. That means, every participant can cast his/her vote and hopefully see their favourite map featured in the upcoming week. From what I've gathered, newash may include non-typical maps to the pool options as well, so the tournament may become testground for new duel maps, if that's the players' will.

Although TESLA tournament itself, and its master server is based in Poland, newash is proud to announce that the tournament is open for anyone with a NoFake account and the tournament's main language is, in fact, english.
